“How do you keep the kids entertained on your travels? We love a good book and if it’s got a travel theme, even better! I was so happy to receive The Travel Adventures of George and Paolo through Italy, by Valerie Van Ballaer, an ebook is so much easier when we’re on the road and as we’re heading to Italy on our European adventure, this one is perfect. Piper loved learning about places we’re planning to visit and it gave her a few new ideas for where she wanted to go. The book contains checklists for the main two characters, a goose named George and a puppy named Paolo for each city with some informative ideas like “explore the Campo dei Miracoli” in Pisa and fun suggestions like “eat spaghetti Bolognese” in Bologna which really made her giggle. It’s beautifully illustrated and they have other locations such as Thailand and Mexico if you’re planning a trip further afield. There are also hard copies available to order if you prefer.” – Are We There Yet Kids blog

Michael Samuels, Author of JUST ASK THE UNIVERSE

Just Ask the Universe: A No-Nonsense Guide to Manifesting your Dreams (Manifesting Your Dreams Collection)

Just Ask the Universe is not a book of New Age gobbledygook filled with empty promises. Angels won’t fly from above and touch you while you’re reading. You will not be asked to practice unusual or tedious rituals. There will be no preaching or sage advice and there will most certainly be no channeling of your inner chakras or dressing like Friar Tuck. Just Ask the Universe is a realistic guide to personal development. By creating a blueprint for self-growth and commanding your subconscious mind, the Universe will manifest all your dreams.

For over two decades, Michael Samuels has studied and methodically tested hundreds of books on self-improvement, spirituality, and the metaphysical. Just Ask the Universe accumulates the wisdom from “thought teachers” like: Wallace Wattles, Anthony Robbins, Rhonda Byrne, Joseph Murphy, Robert Collier, and Napoleon Hill, and compiles it under one unified lesson: if your thoughts are clear and in harmony with your mind and the truth of your surroundings, your life can be filled with all the richness the Universe has to offer. As a culmination from these teachings, Michael will show you how to use simple and fun techniques to create a more desirable future. This approach, coupled with real-life stories, will teach you how to achieve personal power to overcome any barrier.

Regardless of what your present circumstances might be, by following the principles in this book, you will be able to gain power over your destiny. The Universe is listening. All you have to do is just ask.

The Universe is everywhere, and it’s responsive to you and everything that it encompasses.

Since the Universe is in all and through all, it can hear all too. We don’t have to shout when asking the Universe for something. We are not going to beg or sweet-talk the Universe into doing our bidding. It already is.

How Does the Universe Work?

You may be asking yourself, How does the Universe give you everything you desire? The answer is not what you think, and it’s quite simple.

It doesn’t matter.

Review excerpts:

“Though this book works as a stand alone, starting from the beginning of the series will result in a fuller reading experience, especially since Monsterland Reanimated closes on a riveting cliffhanger. A coming-of-age page-turner, Monsterland Reanimated puts a whole new spin on the world of good and evil.” – Reviewed by Anita Lock for Foreword Reviews

“Monsterland Reanimated (Monsterland Series Volume 2) by Michael Okon is a well-written book that reminded me of a mix of the TV show The Walking Dead and the Jurassic Park movies. The author truly set this book apart from the Jurassic Park movies with how he explored the way the park’s implosion affected the rest of the world and the people in it.” – Reviewed By Sefina Hawke for Readers’ Favorite

“I had not read the first Monsterland novel, but really it is not necessary to have done so before reading Monsterland Reanimated. Author Michael Okon gives us the backstory very well as events unfold in the new story. I would never have believed a novel about zombies, shape-shifters, and monsters in general would captivate me quite the way this one did and that is a real credit to the author. I found his writing style and dark humour, with some subtle and not so subtle pop culture references, to be immensely enjoyable to read.” – Reviewed By Grant Leishman for Readers’ Favorite

“Monsterland Reanimated: Monsterland Series Volume 2 by Michael Okon is a gritty and raw horror novel that does the genre justice. Fast-paced, intense and actually giving me goosebumps, Monsterland Reanimated works with elements that may seem to be too much, but the author somehow makes them work brilliantly together. Superbly crafted, Monsterland Reanimated is a nail biter that I just didn’t want to put down.” – Reviewed By Rabia Tanveer for Readers’ Favorite

“Monsterland Reanimated features a riveting plot and an arresting narrative voice that combines with the exciting dialogues to create a reading experience that is perfect for fans of horror. This is an engrossing read with conflict and suspense that will keep readers turning the pages. An electrifying read!” – Reviewed By Romuald Dzemo for Readers’ Favorite

“Careful thought and consideration have gone into each character and their own individual history and plot, adding to their depth and believability. There are some great action scenes which only serve to enhance a well-executed and conceived plot. The stakes have been raised and, as a reader, I find myself eagerly awaiting the next book in this imaginative and thrilling series. ” – Reviewed By K.J. Simmill for Readers’ Favorite

“Monsterland Reanimated is not simply a fast paced action novel, but an experience.  It is as if the reader is immersed into an entirely new world, not simply a story about a monster themed theme park, but rather transported into an alternate reality of a post apocalyptic world.  Okon’s detailed account is authentic, and told in a matter of fact narrative, that makes the reader almost believe this is a true account of events that could possibly happen, given the right circumstances.” – Patricia “Lemon Bee” Dompieri, RN

“If Monsterland was thrilling then Monsterland Reanimated is heart-poundingly thrilling, edge of your seat exciting and a much more action-packed, captivating and harrowing story.” – David Savage, What’s Good To Read

” … a captivating and thrilling page-turner …” – The Children’s Book Review

“This fast-paced thriller will keep readers in suspense as the action dramatically unfolds. Sure to delight fans of dystopian fiction, science fiction and horror, Monsterland Reanimated is a worthy second installment in the Monsterland series.” – The Children’s Book Review

“A sense of wonder reflected in stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory coupled with the nonstop action of Mad Max and the existential horror of The Walking Dead makes this a delightfully creepy read. Monster aficionados young and old will love this series.” – Reviewed by BlueInk Review, Starred Review

“The characters are a treat to follow. The main protagonists are seniors in high school. In some ways, they are typical teenagers arguing about which monster is more powerful. Still, they are forced to grow up fast. Other young adults would find pieces of themselves in many of the characters.” – Reviewed by Cecilia_L for OnlineBookClub.com

Excerpt

Front page of the Copper Valley Sun

President of the US, World Leaders, and Thousands Dead

Many still missing as the world reels from the impact of the Monsterland disaster

Multitudes are still unaccounted for and presumed dead. Escaping werewolves, vampires, and zombies of Dr. Vincent Konrad’s theme parks inexplicably escaped en masse and massacred unwitting park-goers… Massive government shutdowns as the world teeters on the brink of chaos.

The Night After the Monsterland Catastrophe

A bright moon painted the desert’s surface pewter. Here and there, dark spots soiled the landscape like oil spills. Most of the bodies had been taken before the troops were ordered to leave. They carted away the corpses, bulldozing the zombies into mass graves, until radios chirped with urgent orders deploying the soldiers to the bigger threats that erupted in the main cities like a chain of angry volcanos.

Monsterland was extinguished, its carcass left for the vultures to pick, the exhibits silent as a tomb.

The dead president and his equally dead entourage were whisked away on Air Force One, along with the dark-clad special operatives that came and left like the brisk desert wind that now howled through the empty streets.

A gate screamed in the silence, slamming with a reverberating smash. The uneven gait of someone with a physical challenge filled the void. The scrape and plod of his limp echoed against the wall of mountains framing the theme park. His labored breathing huffed as he made his way down the streets.

A door creaked loudly as it was blown by the wind. He stopped, his distorted figure silhouetted in the pale moonlight, his body turning silver. He looked at the broken glass littering the pavement like diamonds, then up to the still, pre-dawn sky. He considered the sun peeking over the jagged horizon in the east, its golden light painting the dips and hollows of the hills. Soon the coming day would chase the darkness away.

Time was the enemy now. He had to move faster, or it would be too late. He picked up his pace, lurching along the winding road. A keening howl ricocheted through the streets, bouncing off the walls. It sounded like a… no, he thought, it couldn’t be. The werewolves were all dead. Destroyed by Vincent Konrad when he made their heads explode.

The old man paused, listening for it again, and was not disappointed when the animal whimpered. He gauged it to be inside the defunct vampire exhibit. He moved toward the entrance. The storefronts had been destroyed. A few body parts lay on the pavement, as if people had discarded them in a rush. He heard the scraping of paws on the street and a shiver went down his crooked spine.

Dennis Meredith, Author of THE NEUROMORPHS

The robots were good. The Russian thugs were evil. But then. . .

It’s 2050, and self-learning Helper androids have proven invaluable servants to humans, making their lives easier, even saving them.

But to their horror, retired SEAL Patrick Jensen and his wife Leah discover that rogue programmers and Russian mobsters are reprogramming the trusted robots to murder their wealthy owners. The crooks then skillfully disguise the lifelike robots as their dead masters, directing the robot mimics to plunder the victims’ estates of billions of dollars.

But neither the corrupt engineers nor the greedy thugs realize what catastrophe they have wrought in giving the robots autonomous abilities.

They have created a new race of networked, “hive-minded” sentient creatures driven by a relentless survival instinct: the Neuromorphs.

Patrick must enlist his SEAL team to marshal their combat skills and futuristic firepower to thwart the seemingly unstoppable evolution of a new dominant species on the planet.

“Probably the best novel of its kind I have ever read”

“The author does an excellent job of creating the virtual world or technology. If you’re a techie, you’re going to love this stuff!”

“Meredith must also be a meticulous grammarian since the entire book and the fate of humanity turns on the difference between the words will and shall.”

“The Neuromorphs combines the unpredictableness of robots along with human greed and selfishness and how that combination may not turn out to be in our own best interests.”

Crunch the tortoise fits in the palm of a hand. He/she/who can tell, eats, sits under a light, digs, sleeps, grows, doesn’t talk yet. Reviews:

I liked how the author worked in diversity without forcing huge political statements or slowing the narrative. The book moves quickly, filled with twists from the investigation and futuristic tech, but not enough to overwhelm readers. Track is a likable character for the good he does despite how hard he works to push people away. The story puts the reader in his head, which shows the author has a quirky sense of humor I found refreshing.”

Love everything about this book. Love the story, the characters. DJ Cooper writes in such a way that you feel like you know the characters and they have been a part of your life since…forever… Whether is a space station or a small town in Cleveland, the stories have characters who drive the plot and the film noir patina give them depth and diversity. Fresh, fun, and a pleasure to read.”

What was most enjoyable about the story was the author’s ability to make Track a likeable person despite his somewhat ornery presentation. Humor was present throughout, making it an amusing read, even as it dealt with serious subject matter. Not everyone can pull off sarcasm in a character without making the reader dislike the person, but DJ Cooper has a knack for making us like someone even as we may wince at their tongue-in-cheek narrative and thoughts. Track reminded me of Indiana Jones, which is not a bad thing at all!”

The world building was excellent. From the very first paragraph, I was completely immersed in the highly regimented and futuristic society that Detective Track lived in.”

Excerpt:

I’d tuned out most of the chatter behind me as I concentrated on system reports. I was ahead. It put me in uncharted territory. The summons came after lunch. Si-Cross Four is a large off-world space station boasting many places to eat. It didn’t matter which I chose, I always found a small group of people who required off-menu items. They couldn’t all have allergies to the latest food considered the devil’s work. I was five minutes late back. And that was only because I’d stopped to help clear an area resulting in the initiation of a chemical spill false alarm report.

“Detective Trackneathan, my office,” my commanding officer Beynard issued in the tone of voice you did not ignore. Not unless you wanted them removed with a rusty knife and handed to you on a platter. I logged off and pushed myself out of my chair. The chip in my knee holding the joint together dug in and I winced. Yeah, I was on a list for a permanent fix. It came with the caveat I shouldn’t hold my breath.

The family has a house full of animals. Tropical fish, a degu called Sam (a small fluffy thing with a long tail, bigger than a hamster, smaller than an elephant.) Crunch the tortoise fits in the palm of a hand. He/she/who can tell, eats, sits under a light, digs, sleeps, grows, doesn’t talk yet. Cossie the bearded dragon talks and can fly whilst breathing fire. She’s well trained. There hasn’t been “an incident” with the fire brigade in months.

DJ runs a small business, has been known to hammer out tunes on the piano and probably has veins filled with caffeine.

Reviews

“Kay MacLeod has developed a complex world of social hierarchy, inventive lands, and a threat to the existence of this world. However, it’s her main characters that will grab onto you and keep you reading to find out what they can do and how they will defeat evil. MacLeod’s use of special powers is ingenious and her character’s interactions provide humor and realism to the story.”

“The Juggler is an anti-social snarkmaster called Asher, and he is -without a shadow of a doubt -one of the most amazing fictional characters I’ve ever fallen for. Asher is just so wonderfully sharp-witted and damaged and adorable.”

“It’s a wild adventure crammed with twists and turns.” But above all else, this is a character-driven story with real depth and emotion and humour.”

Excerpt

Kitty grabbed Serena’s arm, intending to pull her back to the room. Maybe they could escape through the window?

It was too late, they had been spotted. Serena pulled away from Kitty’s grasp and tore out her fans. Kitty moved to deploy her bow as the soldiers charged, hoping to take down a few before she had to rely on her knife. In that instant, her stomach flipped. She suddenly found herself next to a door leading out of the building, just a step behind the enemy soldiers.

An imposing man stood with her, his hand on her arm. He looked a few years older than her and was tall and slim with a scruff of dark blond hair and messy stubble. He was obviously not part of the soldiers’ squad – he wore no armour, just a loose, black cotton top with elbow-length sleeves, rugged trousers, and a self-satisfied smirk.

His grip tightened and he unceremoniously shoved Kitty behind him before she had time to react. She caught herself and succeeded in remaining upright. The closest soldier spun around to face whoever had approached him from behind. The blond man lazily tapped the enemy with one finger and glanced across to where Kitty had been a few seconds previously. The soldier vanished, and Serena appeared in his place, brandishing her war fans.

“Asher!” she exclaimed, her relief palpable.

“Who else was gonna come rescue you, Dancer?” Asher was deep voiced, with a local accent. He turned to Kitty with an unhealthy amount of anticipation in his massive, liquid brown eyes, “Cover us, Archer.”

Asher drew a short sword from his belt with his left hand and launched himself into the centre of the battle. The squad had quickly realised their quarry had shifted and moved to surround the trio of Constellations. Kitty put herself in the doorway, so she couldn’t be flanked, tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear and began firing Venethos’ conjured arrows into the mass of soldiers.

Serena wove around the enemy soldiers, her fans flashing as she waltzed between the incoming blows. She took the head off one man before spinning low and hamstringing another, her regal features still arranged into their usual calm expression.

Asher’s style of combat was unlike anything Kitty had seen before. It seemed that he used his strange swapping power as a weapon. He was never facing the same man for more than a second or two, constantly flicking between the soldiers. He kept at least one hand free to tap his target, using his short sword ambidextrously to combat unsuspecting foes as they unknowingly materialised in the blade’s path. Even just watching was making Kitty feel queasy, she couldn’t imagine how disorientating it would be to try and fight against.

Five soldiers broke away from the rest and headed for the staircase, readying their bows. Kitty put black and white arrows into three of their skulls when another small group rushed straight at her, swinging cleavers and screaming war cries. She felt an unusual calm settle over her as she lined up her first shot. Venethos was an exquisite weapon; it felt perfect in her grip and she swore that it improved her aim. It seemed to be an extension of her body and senses, a sleek predator felling her enemies one-by-one. She would have to break soon though – they were getting close. Kitty tensed, ready to duck an oncoming strike. Biting down nausea, she found herself on the marble counter at the other end of the room.

“Treacherous whore deserved it,” Asher commented jovially as he blocked a sword strike from one of the rapidly decreasing number of soldiers on the floor below her.

Kitty struggled to understand until she looked over to the spot which she’d been moved from. The woman that had betrayed them had taken the blow intended for her. Asher had switched the attendant into the path of the cleaver and now she was sprawled across the entrance, previously spotless skirts dyed a bloody red.

Kitty felled the remaining enemy archers before they could snipe at the Constellations.

“I was about to dodge,” she huffed between shots.

“Yeah, but two birds and all that. Now you got the high ground and I don’t have to kill her myself.”
